The Problem

Moving money into, out of and across Africa still means a different bank, provider and licence in each country. Every extra hop adds cost, delay and a point of failure. Sending money to Sub-Saharan Africa cost an average of 8.37% of the amount sent in Q2 2024 — one of the most expensive remittance corridors in the world.

What They're Building

Fincra operates through applicable licences, registrations and regulated partnerships across its markets. A business integrates once and gets collections, virtual accounts, checkout, payment links and payouts from one counterparty — without managing a separate provider per country.

  • Collections — virtual accounts, checkout, payment links and direct debit for local and international payments, including card collections in USD, GBP, EUR and CAD
  • Payouts — send money to recipients across 40+ countries in 50+ currencies from a single integration
  • APIs & Dashboard — Checkout, Virtual Account and Direct Debit APIs for developers, plus a no-code dashboard for teams that want to start without engineering work

  • MoU with Reap to build card and cross-border products for African businesses, starting in Nigeria (Sept 2025)
  • Operating across Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Uganda, South Africa, Canada and the UK

AI in the Business

Fincra runs AI agents alongside its operations and commercial teams. Each agent has a named human owner, works inside set limits and hands decisions back to a person. The agents handle repetitive checks and preparation work so the team can focus on customers and judgement calls. Every decision that touches customer funds stays with a person. Looking ahead, Fincra sees AI helping with faster compliance reviews, earlier fraud signals and quicker reconciliation across payment partners.

✍️ Editor's Take

"Fincra is doing the unglamorous work that makes African commerce actually function. Licensing across five jurisdictions, 99.95% uptime and $10B processed is the kind of infrastructure story that doesn't make headlines but absolutely should — because nothing else in the ecosystem works without it."

Founder Story

Before Fincra, Wole Ayodele spent more than seven years in finance — including credit risk management at Stanbic IBTC — then co-founded the crypto exchange Quidax, where he ran product, treasury and customer success. At Quidax he noticed that about 70% of users were using crypto to make cross-border payments. "I felt at the time that that behaviour needed to be enabled," he said. He launched Fincra in 2021 with co-founder Gideon Orovwiroro — who also co-founded Lagos payments company Korapay — to give African businesses a proper rail for moving money across borders. Wole still takes customer calls himself, and says Fincra's roadmap is "largely dependent on our customer."
